Grampound Road Village CE School

Summer Term Week 1

It was great to see everyone raring to go after their Easter holiday. We have begun our topic, 'The Electric Environment' where the pupils have been learning all about fossil fuels and how electricity can be produced using coal.
We have been very luck with the weather. The children were able to take their reading outside, using the outdoor spaces creatively whilst enjoying their books (see pictures below).
For Maths, we have started learning all about statistics. This has included creating pictograms, bar charts and line graphs, and interpreting data. While in English, linked with Earth Day 2018, the children are learning how to write a persuasive letter, encouraging people to look after our environment. Visit for more information on this worldwide movement.
During our RE, we have a focus on Christianity and have been studying the story of The Wise Man and the Foolish Man. The children have had the opportunity to recreate the story in the form of a news report and filmed each other's news bulletin.
The School Council is about to begin and we have had lots of children in Longships interested in applying to represent their year group. We will be holding the speeches on Tuesday and Wednesday, then voting will take place. We will announce winners by Friday 27th April 2018. Good luck to all candidates.
Thank you to all of you for helping pupils with their homework each week and uploading it on the Google Classroom page. If you have any queries at all, please do not hesitate to speak to me after school.
