Spring Term Week 7

Longships have had a fantastic week in school. Everyone has been hard at work to finish editing their non-chronological reports, which was then written up on Google Docs. We have been focusing heavily on reading back what you have written, to ensure everything makes sense and working out how to improve our writing. Please help your child to do this at home too, whenever they write anything, as reading back and editing is such an invaluable skill to learn.

We were so excited that it was possible for World Book Day to take place on Tuesday - everyone looked fantastic in their creative costumes. During the day, we did a variety of reading and literacy activities, which included the whole school splitting up into groups to work with other children in the school. It was lovely to see our students reading to younger pupils in the school.  All of Longships Class showed a mature attitude and were great role models.

As your child has probably mentioned, we had a visitor this week to support our Plastic Free Schools Project we are currently undertaking. Leonie, from Surfers Against Sewage, took the class for a workshop on Wednesday, which was all about the plastic problem around the world. She then gave the children 3 minutes to run a Trash Mob- this was a litter pick around the playground (see photos below). The class could not believe how much was collected in this short time. We are looking forward to Science Week (from Monday) where there will be a focus on the current plastic issue.

It is the first week of using Google Classroom, and as you may have read, I have put some homework on there for the children to complete. If you have any problems with accessing this, please let me know.
