Grampound Road Village CE School

Spring 1

Last day of term! How have we been back for 5 weeks already?! We have ended today designing our very own pancakes to celebrate Shrove Tuesday next week. We have learnt about why as Christians we celebrate Shrove Tuesday the day before lent starts. Trevose were explaining which toppings are their favourites!
I have been so impressed with the children's resilience in Literacy this week where we watched a clip on The Literacy Shed about meerkats. We have planned our texts, written our stories, edited the texts then redrafted them - all of the aforementioned were completed independently! Amazing!
In Maths, we have reviewed a lot from over the year so far, this includes, place value, addition/subtraction and multiplication/division.
Have an amazing half term everyone and see you on Monday 19th : )
We have been very busy this week in Trevose! We have started to look at telling the time to the hour, half past the hour, quarter to and quarter past in maths.
In literacy we have focussed a lot on spelling, punctuation and grammar for example, suffixes being added to nouns. In RE we explored our current Christian value of Forgiveness, read some stories from the Bible and acted out our own interpretations of what forgiveness means to us.
As a reminder, please have your PE kit in everyday and read at home as much as possible to get your Reading Karate certificates!
Have a great weekend!
This week in Trevose, we were so lucky to have Mr Senior teach us all about African drumming. Each of us had a go at making some fun, exciting rhythms and even learnt about individual drums! Amazing!
In literacy, we began writing our traditional African folktales and made sure we focussed on exciting vocabulary.
In maths, we continued to learn about measure, and focused on money. We can all recognise UK coins and even add and subtract amounts!
In Geography, we compared and contrasted Kenya to the UK and looked at images to then write short sentences about each one.
Everyone is thoroughly enjoying their gymnastics sessions with Mr Garvis and we're all working really hard to get a PE award each week.
Have a good weekend :)
Happy new year everybody! In our first 2 days back, we have jumped straight into our new immersive curriculum topic of Africa. So far we have been very busy designing and making African masks, decorating our classroom with our work, listening to traditional African Music, learning about countries on this fascinating continent and reading lots of African stories.
Next week we will be learning our new story by Mwenye Hadithi called 'The Laughing Giraffe' and in maths we will begin learning about measure.
Have a good weekend!
