Grampound Road Village CE School

Autumn Term week 8

Welcome back! The children in Longships class have been very busy this week. Continuing with our theme of Vikings, we have been looking at the Viking runic alphabet and writing our names in runes using clay.

The class have also been learning about kenning poems this week. Originally used in Anglo-Saxon and Norse poetry, a kenning describes an object in a two-word phrase. The children have had lots of fun writing their own and guessing the topic of each other’s poems. See some excellent examples of kenning poems written by our class below.

Well done Longships for gaining so many Dojo Points during the last Half Term, which ensured we could hold our Pyjama Treat Day and afternoon ‘Sleepover’. We had such a great time and thankfully, no one did fall asleep, so we managed to eat some yummy snacks and watch some awesome movies too.

Finally, a huge well done to Heidi, Olivia and Alice who have received their pen licences for beautiful handwriting presentation. And congratulations to Bradleigh for being our Star of the Week for having such a fantastic first week back.
