The new children starting the reception class in September have now had two very successful transition sessions. The children have all been very independent and they joined in with the activities. We played a circle game which was based on getting to know each other and then each child drew a self portrait which will be displayed in the class for September. We also took some photos of the parents and these photos will be displayed so the children feel that their loved ones are always with them and this will also inform the staff of who's who.
Each child has a year six buddy and those older children take this responsibility very seriously. The buddy will meet the child in the morning in the playground, help the child to line up and enter the classroom. They will then support at break times and lunchtime. Lunchtime can be quite a daunting experience for little ones, but we find that with the help of the teacher, TA and the buddies the children soon settle. The buddies always sit together in the lunch hall and they will help the children with the food trays etc.
We will ease the children in very gently in September and the first week will be all about getting to know the children, the routine of the school and classroom and the families. We will let you know how they settle and please let us know if anything important that is going on in your child's life.
I hope you all have a lovely Summer and the EYFS team are really looking forward to teaching your child in this very important first year of school.
