The children in Gribbin class are steadily getting into their routines. We are working hard with the children developing their independence. The children now manage to walk into class, hang up their coats and put their book bags away, with a little help from their buddies. The buddies have really been really helpful, especially at lunchtime, big thank you buddies! It does take time for some children to adjust to whole school activities, but little by little these will soon become quite normal.
This week we have started our phonic programme. The children have learnt four sounds. I have put a phonic book in their book bag. In this book I have dated the first four sounds. It would be really helpful if you could support your child with this phonic homework. After a while these sounds will build up and the children will be able to blend the sounds and read some CVC words.
The children are on lilac books, these have no words, they are designed to simply allow the children to re-tell the story in their own words. They can have their own spin on the story, as long as they enjoy it. If your child is tired please don't feel pressured into having to do this homework, it is only the first full week back and we just want the children to enjoy their new school.
I have put a yellow book in the book bag too. This is called the 'just to let you know book.' I thought it would be nice to have a book that we can both write in to share any information. We will check the books each day. Please let us know of any upcoming events, family celebrations or even if your child didn't sleep well. All information is valuable. We will let you know if anything has happened during the school day, e.g. if they haven't eaten much lunch. We will always ring or speak to you about any serious matters. I hope you like the idea, it is only a trial to see if it is useful.
This week the children also began their PE programme. It is quite a challenge supporting a whole class whilst they get changed so please can you label all clothing. I do apologise if mistakes have been made on our part. Please be patient with us, we are working hard to make sure PE kits and clothing are on the right bodies or in the correct PE kits bags.
Our topic is 'All About Me' and we have been learning about families this week. The children completed a collage explaining who lived in each home. We talked about how all families are different and some made a salt dough models.
Next week our focus will be the local area around our home.
